Hoops for Hope 21th Annual Youth Basketball

Camp & Parent Workshop: Volunteer Form

The Quiet Storm Foundation is proud to present the 21th Annual HOOPS FOR HOPE Basketball Camp and Parent Workshop scheduled for 3 consecutive days this July. As with any event, it can’t be done without our amazing volunteers! With that being said, we will need lots of volunteers for the 3 day event. To ensure clarification of roles and responsibilities, we will require each volunteer to attend a training session prior to the event.

MANDATORY TRAINING DATES:

All volunteers are required to attend one of the two mandatory training dates in order to participate:
1. Saturday, June 22nd 10:00 AM
2. Saturday, June 29th 10:00 PM

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS & DESCRIPTIONS

1. Coaches and Assistant Coaches –
The role of a coach or assistant coach is to teach leadership skills while maintaining control of the team. Being supportive, involved, positive, respectful and provide a good example to the children. Players will not be allowed to switch teams – no exceptions. Warm-up exercises will begin at 9:00 am daily. Children are to be supervised at ALL TIMES. Coaches and assistant coaches will make sure the children clean up after themselves after lunch is served and make sure their eating area is clean, prior to leaving the cafeteria. Coaches will also serve as referees during games and Assistant Coaches will serve as monitors.

2. Equipment & Uniform–
The role of equipment & jersey volunteers will be to set-up necessary equipment needed daily and distribute jerseys to each player/team. At the end of the day, all equipment must be returned to the designated area and jerseys collected from players/teams.
3. Media Host –
The role of a media host volunteer will be to escort media guests to the appropriate area (Gym A). Offer water/refreshments and make them feel welcome. Thank them for coming and make sure they speak to the appropriate person if you don’t know the answer. You will receive a list of media guests and approximate time of arrival daily.

4. Monitors –
The role of a monitor will be to guide children and parents to the correct registration table (both inside and outside the building). Check the cleanliness of the bathrooms throughout the day. Supervise children in the bathrooms at ALL times. Make sure children wash their hands before and after lunch. Monitor the hallways and make sure children are not roaming the building. Clean up any trash or spills when/if they occur. Maintain crowd control before and after lunch. Relieving registration volunteers for breaks as needed. Assistant coaches will serve in this capacity.

5. Prize Patrol –
The role of prize patrol volunteers will be to distribute prizes/incentives to campers daily. Responsible for the storage and inventory of all prizes/incentives. On the last day of camp, volunteers will assist in the distribution of backpacks to all children. Prizes/incentives are to be given to children only – NO EXCEPTIONS.

6. Referees –
The role of a referee volunteer will be to preside over the basketball scrimmage games and make sure they run smoothly and fairly. Coaches will serve in this capacity.

7. Registration Hosts –
The role of a registration volunteer or host will be to set-up and breakdown the registration area daily. Checking-in children and parents at the assigned registration table, and providing the appropriate wristbands to participants. Collecting evaluation forms from parents. After registration closes, provide assistance to the nutrition booth or other areas as directed.

8. Score Keepers –
The role of a score keeper will be to keep the score for all basketball games.

9. Security (18 & over only) –
The role of a security volunteer will be to continuously monitor the facility (from open to close). Stress the importance to children of not communicating or going with anyone other than a QSF volunteer. Make sure each entrance to the gym is staffed at all times. Provide support to monitors, making sure children are not roaming the building. Provide escort service to all professional players and/or celebrity guests to and from the facility – to their transportation
